Adoracion “Dory” Datu, 86, of Skokie, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.
She was born in Manila, Philippines, to Inocencio and Victoria Gangcuangco. In 1966, she came to the United States, where she built a life rooted in service and dedication. Dory worked as a nurse for over 30 years, caring for others with kindness, strength, and deep compassion.
A woman of strong faith, Dory took great pride in leading Bible study sessions and sharing her devotion with others. She loved music, dancing, and bringing people together. Her laughter and warmth touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Vicente; her daughter, Dianne; her stepson, Eric (Virginia); her granddaughter, Joshlyn (Luis) Peña; her great-grandchildren, Ezra and Solenne; and her niece, Joji Torres.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, May 2, at Simkins Funeral Home, 6251 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dory Datu Scholarship for Filipina Nurses.
