Allen P. Sliwinski, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, with one of his best friends at his side. Allen was the dear son of Anne (nee Jakubco) and Leo Sliwinski, and the loving brother of the late Jim Sliwinski and Mary Sliwinski.
He was born in Chicago and lived in the Six Corners neighborhood for his entire life. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1971 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University in 1975.
Allen was a life-long gamer. He hosted one of the longest running game groups in Chicago. For almost 40 years every Saturday (and Tuesday evening), everyone was welcome. The only exception was when he went on vacation and for the Christmas-New Year week; twice a year his game group had to find other something else to do. His favorite game was an Avalon Hil classic, History of the World, where players simulated the rise and fall of civilizations over the last 7,000 years. He also made board games throughout his life (such as Pontoon, Cupido, Witch Doctor), and he even published the game called "18??" , a 1870 variant.
He was a good painter, a great photographer who never left home without his little camera in his pocket. Flowers, food, door knockers, the moon – he could see the beauty in the most mundane of things. A fun-loving traveling companion, he has travelled to dozens of destinations both in the US and Europe.
He worked as a chief retirement claims adjuster for almost 50 years. His knowledge and understanding of the rules and procedures of in his work made him the go-to guy for his coworkers, earning him the moniker of “The Legend" by the time he retired.
Allen left us too early but in 72 years, he quietly built records in work and play that will never be equaled.
A memorial service will be held for Allen in the summer.
