ANGELA DENISE SMITH was born in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Roosevelt and Selma Smith on November 24, 1952.
ANGIE was baptized at age 7 at King David M.B. Church by the late Rev. C. W. Winbush. She sung in the Jr. Choir until age 13 under the leadership of the late Rev. Mitchell and the late Rev. Lutcher. For two years after leaving the Jr. Choir, Angie served as Junior Secretary recording tides and counting change from the collections along with the Sr. Secretary and Deacons.
ANGIE attended Wm. Penn Elementary, Rbt Burns Jr. High, and Farragut High School in Chicago, Illinois. At Farragut, she excelled in sports as well as the mixed choir. She furthered her education at Central YMCA College, Malcolm X College and Chicago College of Commerce where she majored as Executive Secretary.
ANGIE worked at Sears (1967-70 & 1974-77), Aldens (1970-72), Hi-Temp Inc. in Northlake, IL (1977-1982), Airco Technical Institute (1982-83) and then settled at Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (1983-). With DCFS, she was employed as a Clerk Typist III, Office Associate, Office Coordinator and then as a Child Development Aid (Transporter).
ANGIE was an active member of American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) while working at DCFS. She was a union steward from 1984 to present. She also served as Secretary to Local 2081. She served on the following committees (Labor-Management, Picnic & Holiday). She was nominated & elected to serve on the State-wide Contract Negotiations Committee twice. She was nominated & elected to AFSCME International Convention twice as an Alternative/Delegate (Hawaii & Philadelphia). She was nominated and elected to AFSCME Council 31 Conventions in Springfield 3 times as an Alternate/Delegate.
ANGIE enjoyed life to the extreme and fullest. She loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Her hobbies included playing cards (Bid Whist), volleyball, basketball, collecting records, CDs, DVD, & tapes. She also served on many organized sport leagues which included softball and bowling throughout Chicago and the suburbs.
ANGIE was a great singer as well as a great comedian. She was a good friend to many and a very giving person.
