Anne Marie Ortaggio Howaniec

Anne Marie Ortaggio Howaniec, 86, of Des Plaines, IL passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7th, 2026.

Born on June 20th, 1939 in Chicago, IL to the late Joanne and Gasper Ortaggio.

She graduated from St. Michael Central High School in 1957.

She worked as a professional secretary at the Seeburg Corporation where she met her best friend, Barbara, and her future husband, John.

She married John J. Howaniec on July 4th, 1964, and started a family a short time later.

Anne was known for her out-going nature, quick-witted sense of humor, kindness, unwavering faith and devotion to the Lord.

She enjoyed meeting new people, and social gatherings shared with her large extended family and many friends. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Des Plaines Chapter for over two decades and acted as Worthy Matron twice.

She was an original member of the team of women who were instrumental in introducing the tradition of hosting the St. Joseph’s Table to the St. Stephen’s Parish where it continues to be celebrated each year since then.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Brian) Killam, granddaughter, Corp. Kaitlyn Killam of the USMC.

She is predeceased in death by her husband, John J. Howaniec, and her son John G. Howaniec.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 15th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen’s Church 1280 Prospect Ave Des Plaines, IL
