Antonia Aristizabal

Antonia Maria Aristizabal, 82, of the West Rogers Park neighborhood, passed away on April 27, 2026. She was born on December 24, 1943, in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Antonia attended boarding school in Boston and later moved to Chicago, where she went to Lakeview High School. She made Chicago her home for the rest of her life and raised her family there.

She was married to Gustavo Aristizabal for 38 years. She was the mother of Susie (Carlos) Garcia and Carmen Santisteven, and is also remembered fondly by Carmen’s former husband, Tony Santisteven. She was a proud grandmother to Carlos Daniel (Katlin) Garcia, David Manuel Garcia (fiancée Angela), Tiana Santisteven, and Alyssa Santisteven, and great-grandmother to Carlos Daniel Garcia, Jr., Cayson Michael Garcia, Emilia Rose Garcia, and baby Layla.

Antonia was the daughter of Baltazar and Maria and one of ten children. She is survived by her siblings Josefina, Araceli, Adaemma, Gerardo, and Domingo, along with many nieces and nephews.

She worked many jobs throughout her life, but her most meaningful work was at Misericordia, where she was employed for many years. There, she spent time with residents beyond her duties—sharing meals, offering companionship, and becoming a trusted friend. Over time, she also took on the role of helping residents with their hair and makeup, something she took pride in.

She was also the loving mother of the late, Puppi the dog.

Antonia will be remembered by her family and those who knew her for her steady presence and the care she showed to others.
