Arthur A. Sullivan

October 8, 1939 — February 3, 2024

Hon. Arthur A. Sullivan, Jr., retired, 84, of Naples, Florida, formerly Kenilworth, IL passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 3, 2024.  His beloved wife of 60 years, Suzanne “Sue” (Hay) Sullivan, preceded him in death by six months.  He was also preceded in death by his parents Catherine (FitzGibbons) and Hon. Arthur A. Sullivan.  He is survived by his four daughters Kathleen (Dan) Wagener, Megan (Bruce) McConnell, Susan (Stuart) Martel and Colleen (Andrew) Risinger; and nine grandchildren Molly, Michael, Colleen, Bridget, Maeve, Tommy, Matthew, Nora and Grace.  He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Sullivan and brother Mark (Maggie) Sullivan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sullivan is a graduate of Loyola Academy and Amherst College where he was an offensive lineman for the football team.  While at Amherst, he also played on the championship Rugby club and won the Western Massachusetts Golden Gloves Heavyweight Boxing Championship.    He continued his education at Northwestern University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor.  Upon graduation, he began his legal career at Taylor, Miller, Magner, Sprowl & Hutchings.

In 1974 he was appointed to the Circuit Court of Cook County as one of the youngest Associate Judges.  He served for many years, ultimately retiring as a Circuit Judge in the Law Division.  Additionally, he practiced law for over 20 years, received the Celtic Legal Society of Chicago’s Celt of the Year award and taught trial practice at Kent College of Law.

He and his wife retired to sunny Florida where they enjoyed two decades of great weather, good health, plenty of fishing and cherished visits from friends and family.  Sullivan leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, fairness, and integrity.  His humor was as sharp as his legal mind, and he will be remembered for the laughter that often followed his witty remarks.
