Barry R. Bleeker, a life-long resident of Chicago, passed away on April 15, 2026 in the home where he was raised. Barry was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Bleeker, and his parents, Klaas and Bernice Bleeker. Barry served in the United States Army, earned his bachelor's degree and subsequently taught high school history for his entire career. Outside of the classroom, Barry volunteered as a baseball coach, supported the Boy Scouts with his time and energy and was involved with his Church (Edison Park Lutheran). His hobby pursuits over the years included body building, handball, racquetball and tennis. Barry also enjoyed a bit of gardening and loved watching football and baseball.
Barry's collection of books and shoes was a sight to see and was a source of perpetual wonder to his family.
Barry was a great son, brother, uncle and great-uncle. His family will miss his sense of humor and his deep loyalty. He cared for his parents in their later years and always remembered his nieces and nephews birthdays and special events.
Barry was a good friend to many and he enjoyed spending time with his friends at local restaurants, diners and cafes. Barry will be missed. Those who want to find him in Heaven should look for the largest library or bookstore - he'll be found in the history section with a cup of coffee while considering his next book.
Barry is survived by his nephews Mark and Matthew Bleeker and grand nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as "Gruncle" (Great Uncle).
Arrangements entrusted to Chicagoland Cremation Options of Schiller Park, IL.
