Barry Loberg

June 5, 1939 — May 10, 2024

Glenview

Barry Loberg, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 10, 2024. Born Ralph Loberg on June 5, 1939, he was affectionately known as “Barry”.

Barry was a proud 60-year resident of Glenview, Illinois, where he built a rich history of memories and friendships that would last a lifetime. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School, where he cultivated lasting friendships that he still maintained until the end. Barry was the Valedictorian of his high school class. His academic journey led him to the University of Illinois Champaign. After graduation, Barry became a CPA and worked at Price Waterhouse before spending the remainder of his career as an insurance agent.

In 1964, Barry exchanged vows with his beloved Valerie. Their union was blessed with two wonderful sons, Gregory and Jason. He poured his heart into being a devoted father and husband. During their childhood, Barry spent many years as a coach in the Glenview Little League, and in later years volunteered and acted as President of the Browns Lake Aquaducks water ski team in Wisconsin. Barry enjoyed offering his time to help young athletes. Barry and Valerie were also dog-lovers and always had a crew of golden retrievers.

After a battle with cancer, Valerie’s life was taken much too early when she passed in 1988. Gregory and Jason went on to form families of their own. Gregory married Colleen and they have four children: Matthew, Grace, Anna and Michael. Jason married Christine and they have three children: Andrew, Abigail and Elizabeth. Barry was a proud grandfather and the grandkids have many fond memories of their grandfather who they affectionately referred to as “Papa Birdie”.

Barry was a fan of country music and took a huge interest in country dancing. This became an obsession of Barry’s and he often competed. His passion and grace on the dance floor was infectious and he brought joy to those who shared his love for country dancing.

Barry cherished his sister, Judith Rock, and her late husband James, and enjoyed his role as uncle to their son, Vincent, his wife, Claire, and their little boy, Milo.

In his later years, Barry found companionship and love with Lori Hill, who stood by his side with unwavering devotion until the end.

Barry faced his final battle with courage and grace, passing away after an 8-month struggle with liver disease. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May Barry rest in peace, knowing that he was loved deeply and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially his sons, their wives and his 7 amazing grandchildren.
