Bernice Elaine Jones was born on June 7, 1938, in Walls MS, to the union of Jimmie and Lucille Porter. She lived in Skokie, IL, formerly of Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood and Memphis, Tennessee, and after a long illness she transitioned to be with our Lord on March 7th, 2025.
Bernice received Christ at an early age and having grown up in the church, she raised her children in the church as well because she believed that a foundation rooted in God's word was a necessity. She worked for many years as a factory supervisor. She had many friends and was considered a mentor. While Bernice didn't believe she was special, she was that and more. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, friend and second mom to many. She loved being outside in the garden; stating it made her feel close to the Lord.
Beloved wife to the late Charles (2021). Loving mother to Michael Jones, Mark (Mary Ellen) Jones, Louise Jones, Diane Jones (2013) and Denise Jones. Cherished grandma of Sarah, Matthew and Chante. Dear sister to the late Jimmie (Molly), Margaret (Polly), Charles, Edward and Ann. Dearest Aunt and friend to more.
Please join us in a Celebration of Bernice's life as well as that of her sister, Molly who transitioned on March 5th at Living Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 9800 Crawford Avenue, Skokie, IL 60076 on Saturday, March 22nd. Visitation: 11am-12noon, Service: 12n-1p followed by repass 1p-3p.
