Carlos Vargas

Carlos Vargas, 87, of Naperville, Illinois and formerly of Des Plaines and Medellín, Colombia, passed away peacefully November 25, 2022. 

Carlos had moved from his home in Colombia to Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood in 1975 at the age of 40. He had a vision of what he wanted for his future and, without any support or knowledge of the English language, left to build a new life for his family in America. Carlos worked hard to provide for his wife and 6 children, at times working three jobs to ensure that his family had everything that they needed. As a skilled mechanic, Carlos knew the ins and outs of car engines and could diagnose an issue without having to use a code reader. He was kind and was always willing to help others. He was loving and loyal to his family and firmly set expectations for his children to make certain that they would each grow to be successful adults. His legacy lives on through the values and traits that he instilled within his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carlos is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Blanca Vargas; his loving children Clara (James) Caron, Jeanneth (Jorge) Ferrer, Luis Vargas, Nelson (Heather) Vargas, Claudia (William) Janzen and Sandy (Juan) Figueroa; cherished grandchildren Dillon Caron, Christopher Caron, Stephanie (Bobby) Tharayil, Jorge (Lynette) Ferrer Jr., Jennifer Vargas, Nicole Vargas, Anthony Vargas, Alaina Vargas, Nelson Vargas, Nicholas Vargas, Mason (Malgorzata) Janzen, Nathaniel Janzen, Kristen (Steven) Lewis, Celeste Janzen, Maribelle Janzen, Alexa Janzen, Justin Figueroa and Matthew Figueroa; treasured great-grandchildren Ethan Tharayil, Angelina Tharayil, Evelyn Tharayil, Connor Ferrer, Luke Ferrer, Colin Lewis and Isla Janzen; dear sisters Alba Vargas, Elsa Vargas, Leonor Vargas, Olga Vargas and Maria Christina Vargas. Carlos was preceded in death by his devoted parents Carlos and Maria Vargas.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 10th at St. Stephens the Protomartyr Catholic Church, 1280 Prospect Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60018.

Carlos Vargas, de 87 años, residente de Naperville, Illinois y nativo de Medellín, Colombia, falleció en paz el 25 de noviembre del 2022.

Carlos se había mudado de su casa en Colombia a Chicago en 1975 a la edad de 40 años. Tenía una visión de lo que quería para su futuro y, sin ningún apoyo o conocimiento del idioma inglés, se fue para construir una nueva vida para su familia en Estados Unidos. Carlos trabajó duro para mantener a su esposa y 6 hijos, a veces trabajando  tres trabajos para asegurarse de que su familia tuviera todo lo que necesitaban. Como mecánico experto, Carlos conocía los motores de los automóviles y podía diagnosticar un problema sin tener que usar una computadora. Fue amable y siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a los demás. Fue cariñoso y leal a su familia y estableció firmemente expectativas para sus hijos para asegurarse de que cada uno creciera para convertirse en adultos exitosos. Su legado sigue vivo a través de los valores y rasgos que inculcó a sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos.

A Carlos le sobreviven su amada esposa de 83 años Blanca Vargas; quien convivió con él 65 años. sus hijos amorosos Clara (James) Caron, Jeanneth (Jorge) Ferrer, Luis Vargas, Nelson (Heather) Vargas, Claudia (William) Janzen y Sandy (Juan) Figueroa; queridos nietos Dillon Caron, Christopher Caron, Stephanie (Bobby) Tharayil, Jorge (Lynette) Ferrer Jr., Jennifer Vargas, Nicole Vargas, Anthony Vargas, Alaina Vargas, Nelson Vargas, Nicholas Vargas, Mason (Malgorzata) Janzen, Nathaniel Janzen, Kristen (Steven) Lewis, Celeste Janzen, Maribelle Janzen, Alexa Janzen, Justin Figueroa y Matthew Figueroa; preciosos bisnietos Ethan Tharayil, Angelina Tharayil, Evelyn Tharayil, Connor Ferrer, Luke Ferrer, Colin Lewis y Isla Janzen; queridas hermanas Alba Vargas, Elsa Vargas, Leonor Vargas, Olga Vargas y Maria Christina Vargas. Carlos fue precedido en la muerte por sus devotos padres Carlos y María Vargas.

La misa conmemorativa se llevará a cabo a las 10 am el sábado 10 de diciembre en la Iglesia Católica St. Stephens the Protomartyr, 1280 Prospect Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
