Strauss, Carol

Carol Strauss, nee Hacker, passed away May 21, 2021. Born April 16, 1935 in Mount Vernon, New York, she spent her childhood and high school years in Washington Heights, and loved the summers on Rockaway Beach. She met her husband, Werner “Bud” Strauss, in the Catskills. They married in 1959 and lived most of their lives in Morton Grove, Illinois. She worked as a secretary for SRDS for many years. Preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Edna Hacker, brother Phil Hacker and sister-in-law Inge Hacker, and husband Bud. Carol is survived by her three children, Vicki Strauss of Morton Grove, Nancy (Fred) Strauss Winkler of Lincolnshire, and Bob (Leslie) Strauss of Elmhurst, as well as her six grandchildren, Jessica and Joe Strauss, Jack and Sara Kelly, and Anna and Erin Strauss. Carol loved to travel, taking trips across Europe and spending her winters in Florida. She was a lover of mahjong, The Godfather, her colorful garden, and mosaics, making hundreds of her own pieces and sharing them with her friends and family. She always had bright, perfectly manicured nails and a fun pair of earrings to match. Her family will cherish how she loved to bring everyone together, and her grandchildren will always remember her famous French toast and card game nights.
