Carolyn D. Anderson (“Dudder”)was born on April 15, 1935, in Toon, Tennessee, to Jack Pirtle and Emma Crisp. She peacefully departed this life after an extended illness at the age of 90.

Carolyn received her education in the state of Kentucky before relocating to Chicago, Illinois, in 1955. A devoted member of Heaven of Rest Church, she faithfully served on the Usher Board for over 50 years, demonstrating her commitment to faith and community.

She retired in 2001 from Rush University Hospital, where she dedicated 18 years of service. Her strong work ethic and kind spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

After a long and graceful journey, Carolyn was gently called home by the Lord and receiving her heavenly wings at 5:00 a.m. on July 21, 2025

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Crisp; father, Jack Pirtle; sister, Catherine Jones; brother, Willie Pirtle; husband, Holt Anderson; son, Clement Simmons; and grandsons, Jarrod Simmons and Jerome Wade.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Sheila Simmons; grandchildren, Renosha Evans, Amanda Simmons, Clement Simmons Jr., Kennetta Johnson, Jerrell Wade, and Mya Simmons; nieces, Janet Isaiah and Stephanie Pirtle; nephew, Scott Pirtle; and her best friend of over 70 years, Rose Duffy. She also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, extended family members, dear friends.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 3rd at Zimmerman Harnett Funeral Home (7319 Madison St, Forest Park, IL 60130) from 12p-3p.
