Daniel "Dan" Robert Pagano

Daniel “Dan” Robert Pagano, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on May 7, 2026. A lifelong Chicagoan, Dan grew up on the Northwest side and dedicated his career to his craft as a sheet metal worker. He lived for many years in Elmwood Park before moving to Bensenville. He was a Chicago sports fan, spending many hours cheering on the Cubs and Bears.

To his family, Dan was the legendary jokester who kept everyone on their toes. If you weren’t careful, he’d surely have you "smelling the cake." He enjoyed fishing trips to the Northwoods with his brother and buddies, even if not many fish were caught.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Darlene; brothers Philip (Lillian) and James (Diane); nephew Philip, Jr.; and his Uncle Jim, Uncle Art, and Aunt Marilyn.

Dan is survived by his brother Robert (Pam); life-long friend, Lester; nieces Ann (John), Jamie (Rick), and Julie (Leka); great-nieces Madeline, Darlene, and Carlie; great-nephew Kyle; and cousins Gina, Jean (Joe), Jane, Kailee, Tyler, Nicholas, Julian, and Alyssa; as well as a wide circle of friends, including all those who loved him at the American Legion.

Dan had been a dedicated member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1205 since 2017. An active and social presence within the post, he stepped into a leadership role by joining the Board of Directors in 2019. Over the years, he faithfully served as Adjutant, Vice Commander, and, in 2024, was elected Commander. In every role, Dan led with the best interests of the post and its members at heart. His friendship, leadership, and commitment will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Legion Post #1205 at 203 Edgewood Avenue in Wood Dale, Illinois. A celebration of life will take place at the Wood Dale American Legion Post #1205 on Sunday, May 31st at 1 PM. If you are attending, there will be a donation box to benefit the Post #1205 in Dan's memory.
