Danny T. Freeney

Danny T. Freeney, 81, of Bellwood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Danny was a figure of strength and independence, a devoted father and grandfather whose love knew no bounds. His caring nature was a source of comfort to those around him, and he embodied a gentle spirit that spoke volumes despite his quiet demeanor. He was a man who treasured his family deeply, always protective of his loved ones and finding joy in their happiness.

A big part of Danny's story included a connection with Terry, whom he met while they were attending Central College in downtown Chicago. Though their marriage only lasted for a short period of time, out of their union two children were born, Daniel and Dionna.

Danny is preceded in death by his father, William T. Freeney Sr.; his mother, Bessie Freeney; and his brother, William T. Freeney Jr.

He leaves behind his children, Tony Wheeler, Daniel (D’Sheadra) Freeney, and Dionna (Ryan) Ford. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren — Antonio Wheeler Jr., Malcolm Wheeler, Liana Ford, and Lauryn Ford — as well as 10 great-grandchildren; niece — Michelle (Trent), nephews — William III (Reygan), Bryan (Jennifer), Terrence (Kristen); several great and great-great nieces and nephews and his childhood friend, Butch.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Danny served his country during the Vietnam War, courageously completing 32 airborne jumps. Following his service, he played a vital role in managing the success of his parents' Shell gas station on the Westside of Chicago. He also operated a hotdog stand-mobile truck serving the community outside the gas station. Danny later dedicated himself to a fulfilling career as a mechanic for Commonwealth Edison-now known as Exelon Corporation, where he retired after 20 years.

Danny will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His quiet strength and loving heart will forever remain in our memories.

In honoring his wishes, aftercare arrangements have been entrusted to Chicagoland Cremation Options of Schiller Park, IL. We celebrate Danny’s life and cherish the moments we shared with him.

A committal service, including full military honors, for Danny will be held on the following:

• Location: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery
