David “Dave” Lee Hunt was a beloved dad, grandfather, and husband throughout his incredible 88 years of life. He passed away on the afternoon of November 6th, 2025.
Dave was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 24th, 1937. He lived in Chicago for most of his adolescence, eventually moving to McHenry with his wife, Sharon (who preceded him in death two years prior). He raised eight children, all of which he had an immense love for and impact on. He had many nieces and nephews, and many grandchildren, all of whom saw him as a pillar in the family. He took an active role in being a grandfather, a notable memory being hosting “art lessons” for the grandchildren, passing on his skills and experience to his family.
Dave was a dedicated and integral member of his family and of his community, a shining light in the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. He had a “twinkle in his eye” that could make somebody smile by just looking at him. His journey on this Earth was marked by love, compassion, and a faith in God. His passing has left a void in his family, and he will be deeply missed by all of us.
We will remember Dave for his love of art, his devotion to family, and his way with people, his family at the forefront. Fathering a large family with Sharon, they raised eight kids: John (and he is survived by) Joanne, Kathy, Doug, Kimberly, Jennifer, Robert, and Daniel. David spent his life surrounded by family, a large amount of memories being at their family restaurant, Windhill Pancake Parlor that he and Sharon ran for many of their great years together. David was an extremely talented artist, often found working in his basement studio: curating art to compete in competitions, sell commissions, or pieces for family members.
Dave was never afraid: always taking challenges head on, doing everything with honesty and integrity (and a bit of humor). He was brave, up through the last day of his life. He spent the last three years of his life primarily with his son, Moose, his daughter-in-law, Michele, and his grandchildren: Daniel and Madeline, all of which assisted in taking care of him and providing him with company.
We ask that you remember Dave as the creative, loving, and dedicated man that he was. We will miss him deeply, and hope that he is reunited with his wife, Sharon, and son, John, now.
Any donations can be directed to animal shelters, as Dave deeply loved his two dogs: Rosie and Gracie.
