David Philip Starr
1966-2021

David Philip Starr, age 55, of Chicago, born in Dubuque IA, raised in Wheaton IL and longtime resident of the Beverly neighborhood.

Devoted husband to Kristen (née Soderstrom), proud father of David Lawrence (Scotland Grace) Starr, Jonathan and Matthew, beloved son of David Everett and the late Susie Starr, loyal honorary brother to Wade Kohlmann.

Dave was an alum of Wheaton Christian Schools, Wheaton Central High School and North Park University. He was an athlete growing up, competing nationally in judo, playing high school basketball and football in Wheaton, and football at North Park College. Along the way, Dave established lifelong friendships and enjoyed recounting stories from those years.

A devoted father, Dave was actively involved in his boys’ lives, serving as a little league baseball coach and elementary school basketball coach in Beverly/Morgan Park. He also founded the Starr Family Olympics.

Dave was a Jack-of-all-trades, dabbling in construction, vibration analysis, insurance sales, education, coaching, and working as a millwright in copper and steel mills. More than anything, he considered himself a stay-at-home dad, jealously guarding the time he could spend with his sons. He took pride in his family, in completing the endless projects that came with living in an old house, and in his self-declared dog-whispering skills.

Dave will be remembered for his loyalty, his magnanimous personality and his mischievous sense of humor. He loved a good joke, an April Fool’s day prank, the Chicago White Sox, Jimmy Buffet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, March Madness, Clint Eastwood, Animal House, and his dogs, especially Earl (Campbell), Dick (Butkus), and Jimi (Hendrix).

An informal time of visitation will be held at the Starrfamily home on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 2-5.

Those who wish to send cards to the family may send them to 6038 N. Maplewood Ave., Chicago, IL 60659. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to the camp that meant so much to his sons:
