It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my dear older sister, Debbie Bales (64), on Sept 20, 2024. Debbie was born on July 30, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois.
Debbie began her career in Computer Programing at the University of Illinois in Chicago after graduating from Northeastern University. She retired from UIC in 2014 after 32 years of service.
One of Debbie’s true passions was traveling. She travelled to various cities in the United States, as well as around Europe and Australia. Debbie made amazing memories along the way and life-long friends, including a 2nd family across the pond.
Debbie also enjoyed reading all types of novels. In her retirement, she was in beta groups helping audit authors’ books and travelled across the U.S. for various conferences.
Debbie was a incredibly kind and generous person; she cared deeply for all her friends and family. She was a great conversationalist, she could fill a room with smiles and laughter. She will definitely be missed.
Debbie is survived by her sister, Jeannie Valera (Sunny), her godchildren Christopher Valera (Benji Morgan), Kenton Mielnik, Michelle Alano, her nephew Danny Valera, niece Samantha Valera and her adopted godchild Megan Covey (Brian). Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Doramarie Bales, and her younger sister, Donna Kraar.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Shoeless Joes Addison, IL from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to CGMC.
