Dorinne Green

May 12, 1929 — July 7, 2024

Milwaukee

Dorinne Green passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, at age 95. Preceded in death by parents, Linda and Arthur, brother Arthur and sister Caroline. Beloved wife of the late Edward Green. Cherished mother of Erika Linden (Bryan) and Jeremy Jonathon (Diana). Fond aunt of Tracy Green, Todd Green, Jeff Stockhausen and the late Craig Green, Sherry Paleta, Victoria Bergeson and the late David Kroening. Trusted friend and neighbor of Judy Zimmerman of Milwaukee.

Lifelong traveler, reader, dog lover, gardener, self-described “Druidess” for her love of plants, animals and nature. She was an enthusiastic voter, remained informed on current events, devotee of PBS, public television, and loved classical music. She remained an accomplished fine artist her entire life.

She grew up on the south side of Milwaukee. Following graduation from South Division High School, she attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a BA and MA degree in Fine Art. She was married to Ed Green on June 21, 1953, after they met in college. She worked as an art educator at Walker Junior High School, and the Milwaukee Public School system’s fledgling “Art For You” TV broadcasting network, as an illustrator.

She and Ed enjoyed trips to Europe, making art, and countless friends. She was intensely involved in her children’s life, Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and later as a volunteer at the Milwaukee Public Museum. She and Ed co-taught a popular Sunday morning drawing class at Whitnall Park and were a fixture at “Gallery Night” in the 90’s. They lived happily in Milwaukee until Ed’s death in 2017.

Her faith was important, as a longtime member of Gethsemane Lutheran church on the south side of Milwaukee. She taught ESL classes for the Hispanic neighborhood population, and enjoyed many church friends, who kept in touch with her for the rest of her life.

Three years ago, she moved to Chicago, to an independent living community where she enjoyed close proximity to Erika and Jeremy, made new friends, and enjoyed activities. She loved frequenting favorite neighborhood restaurants and “taking the scenic route home” from appointments, exploring Chicago.

Memorial is pending. If you wish to send a tribute, please consider a donation in her name to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
