Emma J. Brumbach, 72, of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 29, of Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 7. She
fought her illness for more than 20 years with incredible grace and dignity. She is survived by John, her husband of 34 years,
mother Marvell Whitaker, stepfather Edward Whitaker, daughters Felicia Walker and Monica Hicks, granddaughters Christina, Brittany, Ameerah, Selicia, and Patricia. She is the loving sister of Shirley Nagel (Helmut), Belva Thomas, Terry Goss, Cindy Gladney- Dampier (Ison), Thadis Goss, and Demetrice Gladney. She was born in 1950 in Louisville Mississippi to Charles and Marvell Thomas. Emma moved to Chicago at the age of 12. She started her civilian career at the Chicago Police Department in 1970, and successfully retired in July 2000. She pursued and attained a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in 2004. She loved and was loved by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and literally hundreds of friends.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 16th at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, 1280 Summit Street, Elgin IL 60120. In
