Eric Berntzen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and master craftsman, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on November 21, 1947, Eric spent his life building both a beautiful family and a respected career in his trade.
Eric proudly served in the United States Army for two years, answering the call of duty with strength and humility. After his service, he returned home to begin a long and successful career as a tool and die maker—working 33 years at Burke Tool and Die and another 15 years at Sedwall. Known for his precision, integrity, and strong work ethic, Eric earned the admiration of his colleagues and left a lasting mark in his field.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cynthia Berntzen. Together, they raised four daughters: Rebecca, Jaime, Carrie, and the late Amy. Eric’s legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
Eric is preceded in death by his parents, Nellie and Clifford Berntzen, and his sister, Barbara. He is also survived by his twin brother, Bruce.
Those who knew Eric will remember his quiet strength, gentle wisdom, and his gift for humor. He loved telling jokes and one-liners, always ready with a pun or clever remark that brought a smile to everyone around him. His laughter was a comfort, and his joy was contagious.
Eric’s life was defined by dedication—to his country, his work, his values, and above all, his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered—with love, laughter, and a smile.
A celebration of Eric’s life will be held in June at Pollyanna Brewing Company in Roselle, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor his memory in the way he would have loved—together.
