Eric
Uttenweiler
Feb 28, 1961 — Jul 2, 2026
Chicago
Eric Uttenweiler, 65, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 2nd 2026.
Eric embraced everything life had to offer. When times were difficult, he knew how to take a deep breath, give himself the time he needed, and come back even stronger. When life became tough, Eric became tougher. He was a hard working, determined man, and someone who understood that achieving his goals often required long hours, sacrifice, and perseverance. He cared for his brother, holding him steady through turmoil. He was always doing what he needed to do to take care of himself and those he loved.
Eric loved life and he loved the things that made life fun. He loved movies, music, cars, football, fraternity life, food, and, most of all, his friends and the loving people who surrounded him. He had a remarkable ability to keep himself busy, moving from football practice to friends, food, fast cars, work, and everything else life placed in front of him. Eric jokingly referred to his incredible multitasking ability as his “ADHD,” but those who knew him understood that it was simply Eric being Eric.
In High School at Elgin, Eric was well known and highly respected by the faculty. He visited his teachers and other faculty members so frequently that they affectionately referred to him as “Mr. Uttenweiler.” The passing periods between classes were often not long enough for Eric to actually socialize and make it all the way back to his locker. Because of that, he became close with many of his classmates and often shared books with them.
Eric truly enjoyed his college years. He was determined to get through college and knew it would take hard work. He also recognized that he could not do everything alone. With the help of a tutor, and his determination and perseverance, Eric was able to achieve his goals and graduate with his bachelors. He often chose to put others before himself, memories created with those people are among the greatest parts of the legacy he leaves behind. He appreciated the little things that brought beauty and joy into everyday life.
Through Eric's vision, his Corvette came to life. He purchased the Corvette and had it wrapped in blue and added touches and tweaks to reflected his personality and made the car uniquely his. The car was a true reflection of Eric. It has the wow factor, just like he did. Sadly, this would be the last car that Eric customized.
The last few years of his life, Eric began searching for a deeper understanding of his faith and his relationship with the Lord.
His journey became a deep and personal one.
Leading up to the final weeks of his life, something changed. He began experiencing moments that seemed to bring him an incredible sense of peace. When asked, “Who do you see?” Eric answered, “My Pops.”
Eric seemed to know that he was going to heaven. There was a peacefulness around him that was unmistakably comforting. And even then, Eric continued to show the qualities that had defined him throughout his life. His nurses spoke about what a kind, respectful man he was. They appreciated the way he treated them, even during the most difficult moments. The people caring for Eric in his last weeks became emotionally invested in his journey, making sure he was comfortable, and were moved to tears as they watched him slowly ascend from this life. Peacefully and gradually, the Lord sent His angels to bring Eric home. Eric took his final breath on earth and began his journey into heaven.
Eric would want us to remember the laughter instead of only the tears. He would want us to remember the adventures, the friendships, the cars, the football, the food, the music, the movies, and all of the little moments that made his life uniquely his.
The Lord sent his angels to open the gates of heaven to bring home this one-of-a-kind man who will live on through the countless stories we share, the memories we carry, and the love he left behind.
Eric, you will be deeply missed in this life. Rest well, my guy. Until we meet again on the other side.
