Filse Jacinto Cardino, age 75, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Illinois.
Born in Dapitan, Philippines, Filse spent her early years there before moving to Cebu, where she taught English and began shaping the lives of many through education. She moved to Manila and started her family. Later, she immigrated to the United States and made Chicago, Illinois her home. In the U.S., she dedicated herself to a life of care and compassion, whether a mom, aunt, grandmother or caregiver —roles she performed with heart and dignity.
Filse was a vibrant and cherished member of the Filipino community in Chicago. She was often the life of the party. She loved to dance and never passed up a good shopping trip. She was everyone’s friend. Always giving and never expecting anything in return.
She was lovingly known as "Gramma" by her grandsons Gabriel Elijah Byars and Rami Lee Baim. She is survived by her husband, Ronulfo, her children Kristina, Maxi (Nathan) and Ron; her dear siblings Agapito (Baby), Bulak (Noli), and Pol (Alin); and friends who will miss her deeply.
Filse was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Sr. and Trinidad Cardino, and her siblings Benjamin Jr, Sarah, Alexander, and Lou.
The family invites you to remember Filse by dancing, laughing with someone you love, or extending a helping hand to someone in need—just as she did so often.
