Frank J. Barksdale

Frank J. Barksdale Sr., 76, affectionately known as “Uncle Frank” and “Pops,” entered eternal rest on August 1, 2026.

Born in Crenshaw, Mississippi, Frank moved to Chicago at the age of six, where he was raised and spent most of his life before making Thornton, Illinois, his final home.

Beloved companion of the late Cecelia Michelle Dardon, with whom he shared 44 years of love, life, and family. Father of Shelia, Edith (Jerome), Frank Jr., Louis, and the late Tracey.

Cherished grandfather of Everlene Eskridge and Lovelie Eskridge, and the late Lamont and Earl Williams. Bonus grandfather to Branna Triplett, Marshae Triplett, Caliyah Triplett, Marshon Means and “Mello”(Pops own nickname) Triplett. Proud great-grandfather of Tristen and Amelia.

Treasured brother of Joyce, Darlene, Rickey, Candi, and the late Arthur and Mary Ann. Devoted son of the late Edith Mae Barksdale.

Frank’s life was not without hardships, difficult roads, or lessons learned the hard way. However, he understood that a man should not be measured only by his past, but also by what he learns, how he changes, and what he teaches those coming behind him.

Frank spent many years in construction and janitorial services. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known for looking ready to fix something—whether anything actually needed fixing or not.

He leaves behind stories that will be repeated, lessons that will continue to guide, laughter that will never be forgotten, and a legacy carried forward by those who loved him.

“Rest peacefully, Daddy. Go be with the Creator and the ancestors. Give Mama—the love of your life and our mother—the biggest hug from all of us. Give your mother, our Grandma Edith, a hug for us too. And please wrap your oldest, our sister Tracey, in your arms again. We know you are surrounded by love.”
