Gene Semel

Gene Victor Semel, 70, of Evanston, IL (formerly of Maitland, FL and Grantham, NH) passed away peacefully at his home on September 15, 2023, due to complications from vascular dementia. Gene was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY to caring parents Nathan and Sylvia Semel. 

 

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Debbie, his children Christopher (Alaina) Semel of Evanston, IL and Timothy Semel of Columbia, MD, and his grandson Oliver Thompson, Burlington, VT. Gene also leaves behind his sister Alice (Mark) Mannette, Wichita, KS and nephews Ruel, Aidan, and Benjamin. 

 

Gene was a dedicated friend to many, and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation and make someone smile. Gene was an avid vintage postcard collector, active and respected in the ephemera business for over 45 years. 

 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation go to the Alzheimer's Association / http://www.alz.org.
