Henry Paul Maida

Henry Paul Maida, 82, of Illinois, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, craftsmanship, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Born on April 8, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, Henry was the beloved son of the late Stanley and Angeline Maida. He was a proud father to Rhonda, Renée, and Henry (with their mother, Jewel), and Jonathan and Jason (with their mother, Bernadette). He was the cherished brother of Stan, Marian, Bob, the late Angeline, and the late Mike.

Nothing brought Henry greater pride than his family. He was a loving grandfather to Chelsey, Jesse, Ryan, the late Elyse, and Joshua, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He also treasured his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and his loving companion, Diane Huggins, and their precious dog Lily, who brought him great joy in the later years of his life.

Henry answered the call to serve his country with honor by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1961. Stationed out of Naval Station Great Lakes, he proudly served aboard the USS Kankakee (AO-39) as a Second Class Petty Officer, specializing in communications and teletype maintenance. During his four years of active duty, he exemplified professionalism, dedication, and patriotism—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, Henry built a remarkable career as a jeweler and craftsman. For more than 40 years, he owned and operated Henry Paul Jewelers, where he became widely respected for his exceptional artistry and attention to detail. Among his many accomplishments, he was the original designer of the General Motors/Corvette trademark jewelry line, creating pieces that became treasured by enthusiasts and collectors alike. His honesty, skill, and genuine care earned the trust and friendship of countless customers over the decades.

Away from the jeweler's bench, Henry embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved spending afternoons on the golf course, where the competition was friendly and the conversations lasted long after the final putt. He also had a passion for poker, enjoying the strategy of the game and, even more, the camaraderie around the table. Whether golfing with friends, playing cards with family, or simply sharing stories, Henry had a way of making every gathering memorable.

Henry will be remembered for his quiet strength, infectious sense of humor, generous heart, and steadfast work ethic. He believed in doing things the right way, taking pride in his work, honoring his commitments, and caring deeply for the people around him. His example of perseverance, service, and unconditional love will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Though he will be profoundly missed, Henry's legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and craftsmanship.
