James (Jim) Lowell Barnard, 75, of Skokie, Illinois, passed away on June 6, 2026.Jim was born in Columbus, Indiana in 1950 to Robert L. and Alma B. Barnard. He was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam war and spent his years in the service in Germany. A lifelong learner, Jim attended classes at multiple universities and continued to pursue education in many forms throughout his life. Jim was a kind, outgoing individual who spent his time fixing anything he could get his hands on, helping his friends with household repairs or working with the ESL classes at the library. He also dedicated much time to ensuring his beloved city of Skokie was environmentally aware.Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother Craig, and is survived by his niece and nephews: Tom (Jessica), Dan (Jenn), Brynne (Tom) and Steven (Natalie).A memorial is planned for Saturday, June 27th from 10am-12pm at the Oakton Park Rally Room (4715 Oakton St, Skokie, IL). In lieu of flowers, donations to GoGreen Skokie would be greatly appreciated.
