James J. Prebis, Jr. 58 of Elmwood Park passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026 surrounded by his loving family and dear friends.
James lived a life, rooted and dedication, loyalty and love. He valued education, built a strong and respected career with the Illinois Department of transportation, and found his greatest purpose and pride in being a father to his son Kyle.
Jim had a lifelong love of sports and really missed an opportunity to watch a game, cheer on his favorite team or share the excitement with friends and family. More than anything he treasured his time spent with the people he loved whether sharing stories, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying each other‘s company. Jim had a way of making those around him feel welcome and appreciated. His quiet strength, kind hearted and steady presence will be remembered by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his mother Carol Prebis (Augustine), sister Laura Buske (Prebis), his former spouse Kathleen Prebis, his beloved son, Kyle Prebis, his nephews Steven Buske, Matthew Buske and Jacob Mesa, and his niece Miya Mesa. Jim leaves behind many extended family members and cherished friends who will miss him
We will be having a “Celebration of Life” on August 14, 2026 at Bucaro Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00. The address is 485 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale, IL 60108.
Jim’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends leave a lasting legacy, though he will be profoundly missed. His memory will live on in the countless lives. He touched the love he gave so freely, and the moments that those who knew him will carry with him always.
