O’Grady, Janet “Jan” Marie (nee Teister), 76, of Antioch, passed away on April 24, 2023 after a long struggle with dementia. Born and adopted by Nicholas and Dorothy Teister of Chicago in 1946, she graduated from Regina Dominican High School (Wilmette) in 1964 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (Janesville, WI) in 1967. She was a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics, who cared for thousands of tiny patients over her 40+ year career. Jan was tirelessly devoted to her family, friends, community, and career; she was the embodiment of altruism. Jan was big-hearted, smart, and funny. A true Midwesterner, she had a quiet, hard-working way about her but was always up for hosting a party. She was happiest on the beach, and had a love of collecting baskets, crafting, and enjoying a Cosmo or two. Always with a camera in hand, she documented the lives of those close to her; her family is forever grateful for how she captured our lives with so much joy over the years. Her family will carry on her legacy by working hard, playing hard, and always having the greater good in mind as Jan demonstrated with such elegance in her life.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert J. O’Grady; her children, Kelly O’Grady-Smith (William Smith) of Vancouver, WA, Dr. Megan O’Grady (Rob Peters) of Hartford, CT, Erin McCormick (Josh) of Rapid City, SD, and Trish Webster of Twain Harte, CA; grandchildren Rose, Fae, and Jonah McCormick; siblings Thomas Teister (Terry Flannigan), Mary Shore, Jack Teister (Connie); nieces Jessica Bagley (Edwin) and Bethany Rozanski (Andy); great- nephew and nieces EJ and Livie Bagley and Ellie Rozanski; her dog Adele, and many cousins, colleagues, and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 10am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Antioch. A celebration of life will be held following the mass, with more details on the time and location to follow.
