Jay R. Sabath, Sr., age 83, passed away October 15, 2025. He is now at rest and reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 48 years, Bubbles (née Rodgers) and his parents, Harold and Adelaide (née Nilles) Sabath, and godparents Jack and Marge McNearney.
He was a loving father of Michelle (Dennis O’Shea), Jay R. (Shannon) Sabath II, David (Mary) Sabath; cherished grandfather of Maeve and Ronan Sabath; dear brother-in-law of the late Maureen Rodgers, Bobbi (the late James) Mangan, Mary Jo (Dr. Philip) Levoy; fond uncle of Philip (Sonya) Levoy and Robert (Kristin) Levoy; dear great uncle of Philip, Grace, Emmett and James.
Jay grew up on the south side of Chicago, attending St. Rita Grammar School and High School. He was a Loyola University of Chicago graduate.
He was a Boy Scout in his youth and became a leader when his sons were in the program. He was proud his boys achieved Eagle Scout honors. He enjoyed countless camping adventures and was honored to be a member of the Order of the Arrow, a Wood Badge and a Silver Beaver Award recipient.
Also he was a longtime member of the LaGrange Highlands Lions Club, serving in many positions.
Jay was a devoted parishioner at St. John the Cross in Western Springs. There he dedicated his time as an usher, eucharistic minister and parish council member.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Cross Catholic Church, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, IL 60558, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Scouting America https://donations.scouting.org/#/national or the Lions Club https://www.lionsclubs.org/en, are appreciated.
Inurnment will take place privately at a later date, St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
