Joan Halper

Joan Halper, 92, peacefully passed away on May 12th 2023 with her children by her side. Joan was a loving wife to her husband William Halper for 64 years. She was a devoted mother to her children, Jonathan Halper (Deirdre Halper) and Kathy Halper (Richard Levine).  She delighted in watching the growth of her grandchildren: Madeleine Levine, Isabelle Levine (Yi-Wen Lai-Tremewan), Henry Levine, Will Halper, and Dylan Halper. Joan was born and raised in Chicago by her doctor father and homemaker mother, alongside older sister Bonnie Sporkin, 

Along with creating a warm and charming home, Joan loved to play tennis and golf. For many years you could also find her at the Highland Park Hospital where she volunteered in the Alcove Gift Shop. As an empty nester she returned to her early love of art. She painted consistently for many years, creating beautiful images of her family and the landscape of Naples, FL, where she and Bill would spend their winters. 

Joan's warmth, humor and energy will long be remembered by all those who knew her. Especially those that could call her mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and, of course, friend.

The family suggests donations can be made in honor of Joan to the Art Institute of Chicago.
