Judith "Judy" Labowitz

Judy Labowitz, 88, of Chicago, IL passed away on October 21, 2025.

She devoted her career to Jewish fundraising and enjoyed her time working at Jewish United Fund and JNF. She and her late husband Barnett Labowitz lead the Northwest Indiana Jewish Federation in the late 1970’s-1980’s while living in Gary and Munster, IN.

Judy was an early feminist, a gourmet cook, and a trivia and Jeopardy buff. She travelled the world on many adventures with longtime companion Jerry “Jack” Burgeman and she enjoyed socializing and hosting dinner parties for her wide circle of friends. She was known for her sense of humor and cheerfulness, up until the end. In her final decade, she was assisted by loving caregivers Krystyna Kuta and Millie Edwards who kept her spirits up.

She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Rebecca Labowitz and Abby (and Bob) Countryman, grandchildren Willa, Quin, and Eli, brother Jim Lebowitz and wife Shu-Mei , and her nieces and nephews whom she adored.
