Judith Schauner

Judith Schauner of Schaumburg passed away peacefully on April 23,
2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Judith was the beloved daughter of the late Wilford and Ruth (nee
Kohler) Papenthien; the adoring wife of 47 years to the late George
Schauner; loving mother of Steven (Lisa), Lisa Czepiel, and dog
Shelby; beloved “Grams” to Justin Czepiel; a supportive cousin who
became like a second mother to Tina, Tracy, and Terri after the loss
of their mother; dear step-grandmother of Ashley, Caasi, Kyle, and
Coari; and step-great-grandmother to several children. She was a fond
aunt and a dear friend to many, including the late Renee Bartys;
lifelong friends Virginia, Jeanne, and Irene; as well as many
wonderful neighbors.

Judith left home at the young age of 18 to pursue her dreams in
Chicago. It was there that she met Jeanne (Larry), the love of her
life, George, and Irene and Mitch on Melrose. She worked in
reservations for the airlines and enjoyed taking full advantage of the
travel benefits. She later retired from Delta Air Lines after 25
years of service. In retirement, she enjoyed life in Florida as a
snowbird, spending her days shelling along the beach. She also
devoted many hours to genealogy, exploring family history and
connections. When Justin turned five, she returned to Chicago to help
raise him, a role that brought her great joy. She will be remembered
by many for her wonderful sense of humor, her laughter, and the
support she shared with those she loved.

Interment of her ashes will be held on June 12, 2026, at St. Michael’s
Cemetery in Palatine, IL, where she will be laid to rest with her
beloved husband, George.
