Karen Swanson

Karen L. Swanson of Yorkville, Illinois passed away Saturday October 14, 2023, at her home
after an extended battle with cancer. She was born December 28, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri to
the late Richard and Geraldine “Gerri” Colter. On January 12, 1974, Karen was married to Terry
R. Swanson in Huntley, Illinois.
Karen lived in multiple cities in her younger years and eventually made a home in Elburn, Illinois
where she was able to open her own full-service hair salon. Karen enjoyed running her hair
salon and gardening and continued to service some of her clients long after she sold her salon.
In 2017 Karen and Terry settled in Yorkville, Illinois.
Karen is survived by her husband Terry Swanson, Her children Timothy (Tammy) Swanson and
Michelle (Brian) Howell; her sisters Gail Renick, Gena (Carl) Davidson, Brenda Bell and Angela
Beard; her grandchildren Joanna Clarner, Michael (Brynne) Howell, Brandon (Britni) Howell,
Timothy Swanson and Tiara Swanson; her great-grandchildren Theodore Howell, Amelia
Howell, Monroe Howell and Morgan Howell; and multiple nieces and nephews.
The burial will be held at McHenry County Memorial Park on October 28 at 9:30 AM.
The celebration of life will follow at Karen and Terry’s home in Yorkville at 2:00 PM.
