Kathy Louise Ayala

Kathy L. Ayala, 70, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Maywood, Illinois. Born on February 15, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Betty Ayala nee Fero.

Kathy is deeply missed by her sister, Vicki Ayala; her brother, Nick Ayala and his wife Karen; her grandchildren, Brandon and Jack Wiseheart; her nieces, Candi Mahnke, Samantha Ayala, and Sarah Ayala; her nephews, Arthur Peterson, Michael Peterson (Jennifer), Keith Mahnke (Apryl), and Nick Ayala Jr.; along with her great-nieces and many great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Ed Shier, and her sister Kay Peterson.

At the age of 35, Kathy made the courageous decision to pursue her passion for nursing while balancing the demands of a full-time job as well as being a devoted wife and mother. Her determination to achieve her goals was a testament to her strength and perseverance—a source of inspiration to all who knew her.

In keeping with Kathy’s wishes, no viewing will be held.

Her memory remains a cherished light in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
