Kazuko “Kaz” (née Nishimi) Plotke, also lovingly known as Ruby, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025. She was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life touched many.
Born on March 25, 1932, in Japan to Mae Nishimi and Eitaro (Yamagishi) Nishimi, Kazuko’s journey carried her across the world to Chicago, where she built a beautiful life. She taught herself English, embraced new opportunities, and pursued many talents – even earning an award nomination for her work in film. She was a gifted gardener and loved animals. Her most treasured role, however, was helping care for her grandchildren and being their loud and loyal cheerleader.
She is survived by her three children, Linda (Dr. Keikhosrow) Ghazanfari, Russell Plotke, and Robert Scott Plotke. She was a constant source of encouragement and joy to her grandchildren Daniel (Rochelle) Gazanfari, Dr. Nina (Dr. David) Alfieri, Steven Gazanfari, Ryan Plotke, Alyssa Plotke and Rebecca Plotke. In her golden years, she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, Ava Gazanfari, Mia Alfieri and Sophia Alfieri.
Kazuko’s legacy is one of joy, resilience, and unwavering love. She leaves behind family and many friends who will forever cherish her memory. May she rest in eternal peace.
