Kevin Edward Reid, longtime resident of Hanover Park, passed away unexpectedly at his home in June at age 64. Kevin was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on December 28, 1961, to his late parents, William Reid and Ann Norris Reid, and grew up in Downers Grove, where he attended Downers Grove North High School. At DGN, he was a member of the football team, a cappella choir, the track team, and served as student council president. After attending Eastern Illinois University as a history major, Kevin had a career with United Airlines for over 35 years.
Kevin's proudest role was as father to his two children, Jackson and Mary, and he was always there to help them move across the country as they pursued their dreams. He was a lifelong sports fanatic, especially of the Cubs and the Bears, and that translated into a secondary career coaching and refereeing youth football for 20 years. Kevin also served as president of the Bloomingdale Athletic Club for three years. He fostered his love of history through travels to many places throughout the U.S. An avid reader, Kevin had an intellectual curiosity about history and politics, and was always up for a spirited political debate. Through quiet acts of service, he was always willing to lend a hand to help his family and neighbors. Kevin's love of animals was well known, as anyone who saw him with his late beloved dog, Payton (named for his favorite Bear), will remember. Kevin will be dearly missed and forever loved.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Colleen Reid-Demetre. He is survived by his son, Jackson Reid, and daughter-in-law, Flor Alas; his daughter, Mary Reid; sisters Kathleen Reid-Pizzo (John) and Kerry Reid; brother-in-law Christopher Demetre; his former wife, Lynda Carl Reid; former father-in-law Don Carl; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A private family service will be held. Contributions in Kevin's memory may be made to Almost Home Foundation at almosthomefoundation.org.
