Lewis T. Stephan, or Ted to everyone who knew him was born September 22 1930 in Amherst, Oh. He was the 3rd of 5 children of Dr. Lewis B. Stephan and his wife Dorthy. His family lived in Montana before returning to Oberlin, Oh. He graduated from Oberlin high school, was senior class president, played football and basketball and always reminded people they beat Elyria his senior year in football. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford Oh where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau.
He began his lifelong career in computer sales with IBM, eventually settling in Wilmette Il. in 1964 The family joined St. Augustines Episcopal Church and The Wilmette Sailing Club both organizations would play large roles in his life. He served in many roles at St A’s including leading the vestry and as Commodore of the Wilmette Sailing Club.
He loved Ohio State football and the Chicago Bears, he was a life long student, particularly religion. He was a great story teller, loved meeting new people and was a terrific and loyal friend.
He is survived by his life companion Elsa Swanson; children Leslie and Mark, his son-in-law Tarquin Ralph and daughter-in-law Margaret; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Jessica, James,Andrew and William; sisters Marianne and Susan. He was preceded by his first wife Marianne and 2nd wife Kara Lou and his 2 brothers.
A celebration of his life will be in 2021.
