We are sad to announce the passing of Linda Dolores Johnson at the age of 74. As she lived, her final days were spent in her Galewood home surrounded by comfort, love and family.

Linda was born on August 12, 1948 in Chicago, IL. She was raised by mother Lola Bell Hood and stepfather William Hood Sr. Her adolescent years were spent alongside sisters Rosemary Hallom, Barbara Hill and LaRuth Hood and brother William Hood Jr.

In the 1960s, she attended Richards High School and later married Robert Johnson Sr. They welcomed son Robert Lee Johnson Jr, shortly after. In 1967, Linda became a widow. Years later, she welcomed two children with Jesse Baker: Dana Baker Gage Garner and Jermaine Baker.

For nearly 20 years, Linda was employed at a financial institution. Her children gifted her 12 grandchildren (Natalie, Dia, Patty, Orin, Tarrance, Michael, Nakale, Jermaine Jr., Robert, Neisha, Dominique and Hannah. Many would visit her behind the glass partition or spend nignts and weekends at her home.

Linda was known lovingly as Mama, Auntie and Grandma. For decades, she owned a home with sister LaRuth, where children, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends would cycle in and out, sharing food, stories and time.

Countless family members, extended and immediate, filled her life with meaning and laughter. While there are too many to include, a few key people include Aunt Teola, Aunt Alberta, Aunt Bertha and Aunt Ruth, Cousin Annie Bell, Marie Roberta and Lola, son-in-law Anthony and daughter-in-law Bibi.

In her seven decades, Linda left an indelible print on this world. Her love for reading spurred writers out of her children and grandchildren. Her inquisitive mind elevated conversations and dreams. However most importantly, Linda showed through her strength, wisdom and grace that any challenge in life can be overcome with the love and support of family.

Linda is now resting in a place of peace and power. She has joined her parents, siblings, husband, son Robert Jr., and grandchildren Natalie and Orin.

Linda is survived by her children Dana and Jermaine and two additional generations (including eight great grandchildren), for which she paved the way.

A small memorial will be held for the family.

In place of flowers, you may send a donation in Linda's honor to the American Lung Association.
