Maria "Lupita" Lucio, a beloved soul whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, in Chicago. Born on August 12, 1943, in San Luis Potosi, S.L.P., Mexico, Maria was a source of unwavering love and support throughout her life.
Lupita was known for her nurturing spirit. She poured her heart into caring for others, most notably during her final months when she bravely battled illness. For her son, Antonio Lucio, those months proved to be both the hardest and most rewarding time they shared together. Antonio fondly recalls the moments they spent side by side, saying, "I would hug her and whisper 'I Love you ma.' She would kiss me and whisper back, 'I Love You Too mijo.'" It was a testament to the deep bond they forged during that time, allowing them to rediscover the strength of their mother-son relationship.
Maria embodied the essence of kindness and was cherished for her listening ear and loving nature. Friends and family knew her as someone who always seemed to be right, a trait that only endeared her further to those around her. Her joy was often found in the quiet moments spent reading the Bible, engaging in the art of coloring by numbers, and enjoying her favorite talk show, "Acércate a Rocío."
Throughout her life, Maria celebrated many accomplishments, but one that stands out is when, at the age of 72, she took the remarkable initiative to drive by herself from Chicago to Georgia to rescue her son. This incredible act of love and bravery remains etched in Antonio’s heart as the biggest surprise of his life.
Maria leaves behind her son, Antonio, who will carry her loving spirit with him always, and her beloved dog, Baby, who provided companionship and joy in her later years. She now joins her late husband, Benito Lucio, and her parents, Guadalupe Garcia and Elias Rosales, with whom she will be reunited in eternal peace.
The legacy of Maria "Lupita" Lucio is one of love, resilience, and enduring strength. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched, reminding us of the beauty found in compassion and connection.
