 Matthew Jay McPherson:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Jay McPherson, age 70, of Oswego, Illinois. Born on April 11, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Matthew lived a life full of love, hard work, and humor. Matthew was a Master Craftsman and a proud union worker for over 40 years, earning the respect of his colleagues with his skill, dedication, and attention to detail. He loved his brotherhood at the Carpenters Union Local 0803 in Southern California. His work left an indelible mark, and his craftsmanship will be remembered for years to come. But above all, Matthew cherished his family most. He shared a special, unbreakable bond with his two grandsons, James and Jace Cooper, who brought immense joy to his life. Matthew’s daughters, Melissa (Shawn) Johnson and Shannon (Jesse) Cooper, were his pride and joy, and his love for them was unwavering. Matthew is survived by his loving siblings: Mike (Pam) McPherson, Mark McPherson, and Melanie McPherson, along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members who will all deeply miss his presence in their lives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmelita P. Dyer, and father, Virgil E. McPherson, two individuals who undoubtedly shaped the man he became. Though Matthew’s time with us was too short, his legacy of hard work, love for family, and unwavering sense of humor will live on in the memories of all who knew him. He will be with us at the drag strip, fishing trips, Taco Tuesdays, and every time we watch Gun Smoke and Hogan’s Heroes. Details about a celebration of life will be shared soon. In the meantime, we ask that you honor Matthew’s memory and hold him in your hearts, as he did for all of us.
