Maurice Thomas, affectionatly called Al by family and Big Al by friends and acquaintanences born on May 6, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on August 15, 2025. He was known for his vibrant personality, often bringing smiles and laughter to those around him through his love of singing and his friendly demeanor.
Maurice faced the hardships of losing his parents, Morris and Maggie, at a young age and his dear sister Elanda. Fortunately, he was raised by his loving and God fearing grandmother, Addie Nettles, who played a significant role in his life. Despite these early challenges, Maurice cultivated a warm and inviting spirit that touched the hearts of many.
Maurice's paternal grandparents Guy and Sally Thomas who were hands on in his upbringing, proceded him death. His ultimate gold was to see a smile on everyone's face just by showing his big smile.
He is survived by his siblings: Linda, Diane, and Darryl. Uncles Guy and Thomas(Elizabeth) Larry and Bobby Nettles; Aunts Clara Nettles and Veronica Nettles Campbell(Tony); 7 nephews and 5 nieces, 8 great nephews, 4 great nieces and a host of cousins, "brothers, sisters and friends. They will carry his memory forward, cherishing the joy and laughter that he so generously shared during his lifetime.
Maurice's legacy of friendship and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
