Chicago

Max Perez passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 85.Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 9, 1940, Max moved to Chicago as a young child and spent nearly all his life there. Chicago was the city he called home, where he built a life centered around books, friendships, family, and the everyday routines he enjoyed.Max spent much of his career in book publishing, working as a print buyer and production manager. His work reflected two lifelong interests: books and learning. Reading remained one of his greatest pleasures, and he was naturally curious, always eager to learn something new.Outside of work, Max enjoyed jazz, Cubs baseball, fishing on Lake Michigan, classic films, cooking, and spending time with friends. Whether meeting for coffee before a morning of fishing, participating in bowling or dart leagues, or relaxing with a good book, he found enjoyment in the quiet routines of everyday life. Those who knew Max knew him as a thoughtful man who enjoyed good conversation, lifelong learning, and the company of close friends. He also took pleasure in sharing many of the things he loved, especially books, music, and Cubs baseball, with his family. In his later years, Max devoted himself to caring for his wife, Debbie, throughout her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He did so with patience, kindness, and quiet dedication.Max is survived by his wife, Debbie; his son, Greg; and his daughter, Cheryl. In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated, and no formal services will be held.He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
