Merle Helen Carrigan, who was a dedicated teacher, artist, and loving family member, passed away on May 28, 2026, in Lockport, Illinois. She was born on March 13, 1935, and spent much of her life in Roosevelt, Utah, where she was raised.

Merle devoted many years to education, teaching Religion Education at St. Jude in New Lenox and St. Joseph in Joliet. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at Fairmont Grade School. Her commitment to faith was central to her life, and she was a proud parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Merle took part in pro-life activism, standing firm in her beliefs and sharing her passion with her community.

An artist at heart, Merle painted beautiful watercolors that reflected her love of creativity. Along with her husband, Joe, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, she coached children's baseball for 15 years, bringing joy and encouragement to many young players.

Merle is survived by her children: Marilyn, Shanna (widow of the late Al), Joe (husband of Amy), Janis, Maureen, Patrick, Christina (wife of Edward), Jennifer, and Scott (widower of the late Erin). She was also the cherished sister to Doris and Jean. As well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe; her daughter Edna; and her siblings Lucille, Isabelle, Faey, John, and Elsie.

Merle Helen Carrigan's life was marked by dedication, faith, and family. She will be remembered with warmth and respect by all who knew her.
