Michael Mayrens

Michael Mayrens, age 57, of Franklin Park, Illinois, received the Crown of Life on Saturday, July 3, 2021 following a bravely fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie (Williams) Mayrens; his loving mother, Hedwig (the late Ike) Mayrens; his dear siblings Maija (Joseph) Steele, Ingrid (the late Jon) Allmon, John (Lisa) Mayrens, Ronald (Becky) Mayrens, Linda (Randy) Johnson; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (Jeffery) Mayrens.

Michael was born in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany, and was baptized at St. Martin’s Church there. After moving to Chicago, he attended St. Paul (Austin) Lutheran School, and later Trinity (Meade) Lutheran School. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He then went on to attend Luther High School North where he met his future wife, Bonnie. Following his graduation from Luther North in 1981, Mike spent a year attending the Lettisches Gymnasium (Latvian School) in Munster, Germany. Mike then returned to the United States where he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He enjoyed a career in industrial chemical research and manufacturing, including D.A. Stuart and Rhodia/Solvay. Mike was loved and cherished by his family and friends. He was known as a kind and giving person, always willing to help others. He enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, and spending time with family. Mike had a passion for gardening and during the spring and summer he could often be found outside in the garden. He also loved interacting with the backyard wildlife.
