Mira Frohnmayer

Today, Mira left us, peacefully at 88 years old. A delight and a devil in almost equal measure.

She is remembered as a fantastic voice teacher, an amazing musicologist of vast breadth and depth, a performer whose rich sound and skill delighted students and audiences, and a person who instantly made everyone feel welcome. Her humor often took center stage, but her wise nurturing of young people was a cornerstone.

Mira served on Boards at the Lyric Opera of Chicago Ryan Center and the Eugene Symphony. She received numerous honors during her life and had four operas written with her in mind to play the roles. She was a paid soloist at churches and temples for much of her life and truly enjoyed the friendships and choral singing there.

Her colleagues and former students responded to this news with comments like "An unfathomable loss to us but a gain to the voices of angels. May she always live on in our hearts.”; "I'm so sorry to hear this - what a force of life and love Mira was!!!! She was an inspiration and true support to me “; "The world has indeed lost a bright light. Mira was such an influential mentor, powerful talent and compelling inspiration."

Donations can be made in Mira's name to Fanconi Cancer Foundation and Cognitive and Cardiology research fund at Rush Hospital.
