Nancy Ann Burke

Nancy Ann Burke, nee Zimmerman, 82, of Chicago and Mt. Prospect and formerly of Montana passed away after a long illness on May 11, 2021. Beloved wife of Dr. Edward Burke for 59 years. Loving mother of Ned (Siobhan), Brendan (Michelle), Meghan (Gregory) Burke-Abowd and Katy (Richard) Carter. Cherished Nana of Aine, Aoife, Aidan, Blaise, Mary Catherine, Bridget and Rhiannon, much loved step-grandma of Aidan, Brendan, Genevieve and Rainer, and great-grandmother of Owen. Nancy was a retired nurse, and came from a family of committed health care givers, including her loving husband, Dr. Edward Burke, and her mother and nursing crusader Anne Zimmerman. Nancy spent decades deeply devoted to improving the lives of her patients, as well as her students at the University of Illinois and Loyola School of Nursing. She also found time to be a caring and wonderful mother, grandmother and wife.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy's name to Thresholds, at thresholds.org. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 18, at 10am at St. Ita Catholic Church in Chicago.
