Peggy Connell

Peggy Kate Mabry Connell, 85, of Wilmette, IL passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020. She was born in Norwood, NC and then moved to Wingate, NC and eventually to Cornelius, NC. She spent most of her career educating our youth and raising her family in Wingate, NC. Peggy was born on December 28, 1934, to the late Fred A. Mabry and Kate Hill Duke Mabry in Norwood, NC. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Connell in 1992; brothers Franklin “Gene” Mabry and Sgt. John “Bubba” Ray Mabry; sister Lucille Mabry Thompson, and niece, Judy Mabry Mote. Peggy will be remembered and cherished by her son Kevin P. Connell and his spouse, Jonathan Sikes of Chicago, IL, her nieces Marilyn Haley and Megan Haley of Charlotte, NC, and her loving four-legged friends, Elvis and Cosmo. Peggy was a retired teacher from Union Elementary School in Union, NC after 30 plus years of service as a dedicated teacher. Upon retirement, Peggy was an avid ballroom dancer, as well as enjoyed gardening and traveling. Her favorite travel experiences included a missionary trip with her church to Israel and later a Greek island cruise with her son, Kevin. She was an active member of Wingate Baptist Church.
