Chicago

Phyllis Ann Birdie age 87 of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025 surrounded by family. Phyllis was born on July 5, 1937 in Chicago Illinois, to the union of Phillip and Violet (Geartner) Hastings. Phyllis was a beacon of love, strength, and hilarious wit for her family and friends.

Phyllis, beloved sister of Gerald Hastings, is survived by her son Daniel Birdie, Daughter Cindy (Marty), Niece Veronica (Todd), Nephew Scott (Kim), Grandaughter Carli (Neddy), Grandsons Justin (Arnetta), Joseph (Sam), Joshua (Alicia), and Great Grandchildren Eevee and Joseph LJ Borucki.

Phyllis’s passions included traveling, all things Irish, swimming, storytelling, her garden, and cooking a delicious meal at home or going out to eat with family and friends. She loved all of her pets throughout her lifetime. Some of her favorite things included bloody Mary’s, vodka gimlets, and a good sweet treat accompanied by a Turner Classic Movie. She particularly loved the movies with Esther Williams, the swimmer. She also loved any movie with John Wayne.

Phyllis will always be remembered for her unwavering strength, love for her family and friends, and her innate ability to tell you like it is, for better or worse. Her laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew her.

Phyllis will be cremated, and we invite family and friends to write a note to be added to her biodegradable urn at her celebration of life. Her celebration will be held on Sunday, June 29, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Imperial Restaurant (second floor) 2100 S. Archer Avenue Chicago Illinois, 60616. Family style Chinese food will be served along with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Public parking can be found on the street. There is also a public parking lot across from the mall.
