Phyllis Shearer, 88, of Johnsburg, Illinois, formerly of Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025.
Loving mother of Benjamin Shearer (Lisa Alvarez) and Nancy Wendt (Courtney Wendt). Devoted and joy-filled grandmother of Nate (Isabelle) Wendt and Noah Wendt, her greatest treasures and the lights of her life.
After graduating high school, Phyllis left her home in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, to study acting in New York City, beginning a lifelong love of the arts. She later earned her bachelor’s degree and built a career as a writer, ultimately publishing her first novel, an achievement she cherished.
Phyllis lived a life enriched by curiosity, creativity, and the people she loved. She was an engaged and enthusiastic grandmother, spending countless days taking her grandsons to museums, parks, and local adventures that sparked their imaginations. She rarely missed a school event, celebration, or moment to cheer them on.
A dedicated member of several writers’ groups over the years, Phyllis found great joy in crafting stories, sharing ideas, and encouraging the creativity of others. She was also a passionate movie lover, known for her sharp Oscar predictions and her tradition of turning awards night into a celebration.
Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and artistic spirit.
