Renate Dupin

Renate Dupin, 99, died on June 2 in Northbrook, Illinois after a brief stay in hospice. Mrs. Dupin had lived in Northbrook and Wilmette the past seven years.


Born in Germany, she moved to the U.S as an infant. Her family lived in Paterson, New Jersey and neighboring Fair Lawn. After the Second World War, she met and married her husband, John, who had been an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine.


They lived in Radburn, New Jersey and Mount Vernon, New York before relocating to Palatine, Illinois because her husband had become a salesman whose job required extensive travel throughout the Midwest. They raised their three children in Palatine and neighboring Barrington.


Mrs. Dupin, who had worked in the garment industry when she lived in the New York suburbs, worked as a bookkeeper for about 20 years at Great Lakes Fire and Safety Equipment in Barrington. She enjoyed hobbies such as sewing, knitting, and gardening.


Upon retirement she and her husband crossed Canada and the United States in a camper van, a year-long adventure that took them up the AlCan highway. They then settled in Rehoboth, Delaware. They enjoyed traveling and renovating the house they had purchased in Rehoboth. They also visited many countries in Europe as well as China. In retirement, “Ronnie” as she was known by most of her friends, worked in retail and volunteered in local charities.

Several years after her husband’s death, Mrs. Dupin moved to Naples, Florida. She eventually returned to the Chicago suburbs, to be close to daughter Janice Kavanaugh and her husband Greg in Glencoe, Illinois and their sons Cameron who lives in Chicago and Cullen who lives in New York.

Her other daughter Carolyn Freyer and her husband Andy live in Nashville, Tennessee and their son Jami lives in
Los Angeles.

Mrs. Dupin’s son Chris and his wife Beth live in Richmond, California; her granddaughter Emma Parandvash lives in Oakland, California with husband Keon and their two children, Ardeshir and Darya.
